Since 1977, 19th-Century Music has published innovative research on nineteenth-century music and its legacies — cultural, social, economic, political — as a living and ongoing force. The journal is open to studies on musical genres and practices originating from or being heard around the world. Contributions by scholars, performers, composers, and critics come from the fields of musicology, music theory, and ethnomusicology as well as from disciplines that study music from different perspectives, such as literature, art, theater, performance studies, philosophy, media, science, technology.
